Walmart-owned Flipkart has opened its second data center in Hyderabad, after the first one in Chennai. Built in partnership with CtrlS, Flipkart stated that this facility has been designed to be Tier-4 rated and majority of the power consumed is fulfilled by renewable energy. It is also amongst one of the most an energy efficient data centers in India with a low overall Power Usage Effectiveness.

Part of one of the largest private cloud deployments in the country, this center will further enhance the ecommerce major’s capacity to get more sellers and MSMEs to its platform and accommodate the needs of more consumers in the country.

The datacenter is built with Flipkart-designed racks, intelligent power and cooling and customized hardware for mission critical computing, storage, artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, backed by ultra-low latency network.

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart, said that datacenters play a critical role in serving sellers and customers better, as well as ensuring business continuity. “Our new datacenter at Hyderabad is a testimony of our investment in the ecosystem and the state. We recognize the tremendous opportunity for sustained data-driven transformation in India and we are pleased by the support we have received from the state government in our efforts,” he said. “We are determined to continue growing the business and create a viable ecosystem for MSMEs, local manufacturers and in the process create quality local jobs.”

The facility was inaugurated by Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary IT and Commerce for Telangana. He said that the state was the first to come out with an exclusive policy on datacenters, and it was satisfying to see encouraging results emerge from it.
