Retail chain, SPAR Hypermarket, introduced its third branch in Chennai, at Marina Mall, OMR. But it was did not anticipate to welcome 50,000 customers within three days of launch. The hypermarket recorded sales of 25 tons of onions, 20 tons of rice, 4000 juices and 100 Kodak TV units.

To mark the launch of the new outlet, SPAR Hypermarkets hosted a healthy cook-off challenge featuring leading food bloggers from the city on 27th March, 2019. This activity showed customers how to make four simple dishes (salad, stir fry, pasta and sandwich) using ingredients available at SPAR Hypermarket. The focus was on eating healthy, ways to increase the nutrition quotient of common dishes, and how to make everyday cooking fun.

We are delighted to expand our presence in this welcoming city with our latest branch at Marina Mall. To celebrate, we invite our customers to an enjoyable event reminiscent of TV cooking shows.”

The new SPAR store at The Marina Mall offers innovation-led experiential shopping as well as a wholesome assortment of fresh produce, fish and meat, staples, consumer packaged goods, home and living products and apparels. This can be procured from online and offline touchpoints covering store, web, mobile app, call and order and more.

The store, which is the company’s 25th in the country, has been designed with considering emotional quotient; blending aesthetics, convenience and clear value propositions to deliver a fast, fun and friendly shopping experience. Innovative use of technology in the store includes self-assist screens and self-checkout counters. SPAR has developed experientially designed departments, make shopping more enjoyable.

These sections range from Wonder Years – an exclusive kids area with some hands on tech; a special Grandma’s corner which takes your taste buds back to your childhood; SPAR Kitchen which brings together more than 20 local and global cuisines, ‘Freshly’, a space for fun with fruits and vegetables and much more.

SPAR India is a franchise of the Dutch retail chain SPAR International and is brought to India by Max Hypermarkets, part of the Landmark Group based in Dubai. The company is headquartered in Bangalore and operates 23 stores across 10 locations. SPAR Hypermarkets in India range in size from 30000 to 70000 sq. ft. (with over a million sq. ft. in total) and are designed to make the shopping experience more intuitive and convenient for over 3 crore customers.
